Property Donation in Grays Harbor, WA

Donating Property in Grays Harbor County, Washington

Grays Harbor is the Washington coast at its working end – Aberdeen and Hoquiam around the harbour itself, the Chehalis valley running inland through Elma and Montesano, and the beaches and rainforest edge north toward Amanda Park and the Quinault. The county was built on timber, and the housing still reflects it: a great deal of early twentieth-century mill-town stock, much of it built quickly for workers and not substantially updated since.

Two things here make a conventional sale hard. The first is condition in a wet climate – this is one of the rainiest corners of the continental United States, and a hundred-year-old wood-framed house that has lost its roof edge or its foundation drainage will not pass a lender’s inspection. The second is flood and tsunami mapping along the harbour and the lower Chehalis, which drives insurance cost and narrows the buyer pool regardless of how sound the structure is.

Donating sidesteps both. The property is accepted as it stands, with no appraisal contingency to fail and no repair list to negotiate, which is often the practical answer for an inherited house in Aberdeen or a cranberry-country parcel at Grayland that nobody in the family is in a position to maintain.
