Donating Property in Grant County, West Virginia
Grant County is high country in West Virginia’s eastern panhandle region – Petersburg on the South Branch of the Potomac, with the Allegheny Front and Dolly Sods rising to the west. It is one of the more sparsely settled counties in the state, and much of what is not farmland along the river bottoms is steep, forested and remote.
That produces two distinct kinds of property. The first is river-valley land and housing, productive but exposed – the South Branch has a long flood history and insurance reflects it. The second is mountain acreage and camps: cabins used seasonally for hunting, often on roads that are not maintained through the winter and without the year-round utilities a lender expects to see.
